Dog Breed of the Week: Mutt

It's time once again to feature mixed-breed dogs (yes, my favorite). Though the mutt is not technically a dog breed, mixed-breed dogs definitely have their place as the "breed" of the week. After all, they are no less deserving of the spotlight than purebred dogs. Many of the dogs in shelters are mutts, so adopting one is a great way to help dogs in need.

Personally, I am a mixed-breed enthusiast. I just love how each mutt is a bit of a mystery, and I enjoy taking guesses about a mutt's breed makeup. Mixed-breed fans will probably agree that mutts are among the most unique of all dogs. No two mutts are quite the same, and the lineage of any given mutt is usually a mystery.

Are you nuts for mutts? If so, you're are not alone - millions of people adore their mixed breed dogs. What's extra-special about your mixed breed dog? Share your mutt tales with us!

About the Photo: This is my dog Jack. He is a 1 year old mutt I got at our local animal shelter at about 5 months of age. They said he is probably a Corgi/Dachshund mix, but I think he may have some Jack Russell in him too, because he is very energetic and can jump really high. He is about 30 lbs. but is most definitely a "lap dog". He is so much fun. I can't imagine my life without him. He has so much personality and loves to give kisses. I am glad I was able to give him a second chance at life.   - Donna

Adopt the Internet Day

Petfinder Adopt-the-Internet Day

Pet adoption is one of my favorite topics, so when I heard about Petfinder's upcoming Adopt the Internet Day, I jumped at the chance to participate. Petfinder.com is today's leading pet adoption website. Working with thousands of animal shelters and rescue groups, Petfinder has helped find homes for countless numbers of pets. In honor of their 15th birthday, Petfinder is asking bloggers everywhere to pledge to blog about adoptable pets on March 15, 2011. Next Tuesday, I'll be blogging about dog adoption along with a couple dozen other pet-related sites.

Here's where you come in. On Tuesday the 15, along with talking about dog adoption, I will be featuring one or two of my favorite stories about adopted dogs. Want your dog's adoption tale spotlighted? Submit your dog adoption story here. You can also read other dog adoption tales submitted by readers like you.

Check back here next Tuesday to see the featured adoption tales. In the meantime, spread the word about pet adoption to others. Also, don't forget to visit Petfinder's Adopt the Internet Day page to find out more ways to get involved.
